Easily checks 6 and 12 volt systems. Tough plastic handle lights up if circuit is good. Lead remains flexible in low temperatures. So once again cheap means no instructions. And while I don’t need help using the dang thing, the buycheapautomotivetools light configuration was different than any other I have used. So it took me a couple tries to put the lightbulb in the correct location. big deal? no, but sheesh what would it cost for there to be a small slip of paper with that information? Even a picture on the box would do. Is china afraid we’ll make fun of the silly translation? too late, we already do, so make the effort already.
Otherwise the cable is nice and heavy and it works. The clip is quite difficult to compress to get aaround larger grounds and I ended up pulling the rubber boot way back to help. But I’m please the boot is nice and thick. I’ve torn some cheaper ones and while I don’t expext to zap anything, I like knowing this should last. This test light has 3 colors: white, red, and green. The white LED indicates that there is voltage going through it, and is useful to add a little light to the area that is being tested. The red LED is for (+), and the green LED is for (-). The brightness of the red LED will help indicate how strong the voltage of the circuit being tested is. This test light is computer safe which is a must for modern electrical systems. It has a built in cigarette lighter style plug that has an internal fuse, and an adapter for connecting the tester directly to a battery. An ordinary test light only indicates the presence of a (+) signal while this tester performs like a logic probe to indicate a ground signal as well. It has a very good ergonomic grip, and is recommended for anybody working on automotive electrical systems.
I purchased this test light after I broke my SST42V. This ATD test light is only a fraction of the cost so I figured I would try something new. It does as advertised, and lights up red for 12v and green for ground. However, this light is NOT computer or airbag safe so KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TESTING. The test light does throw a good amount of ground signal when testing – enough for me to energize a standard spdt relay or engage certain ground circuits. So all in all, it serves it’s purpose, but this will probably be going in the garbage as I can’t risk possibly damaging something as a result of this light.
